Time and Money Savings With Polyisocyanurate

Share

Polyisocyanurate insulation boards, like SOPRA-ISO, are composed of a cellular structure core covered with various coatings. They form a thinner yet efficient roofing system with the highest R-value (R-5.7) among all traditional roof insulation. Polyisocyanurate insulation boards are, in fact, one of the most thermally efficient insulation products on the market.

Excellent Dimensional Stability

Because of their excellent dimensional stability, polyisocyanurate insulation boards maintain their original dimensions in roofing systems. This prevents the formation of thermal bridges that could reduce the energy efficiency of the building. In addition, thanks to their rigidity, they are not likely to sag, which would alter or lessen their thermal performance throughout the life of the building. Polyisocyanurate insulation boards provide energy efficiency and versatility.

All Kinds of Applications

Polyisocyanurate is generally considered to be the most effective thermal insulation product on the market, with an outstanding service temperature range of -73 °C to 122 °C, allowing hot bitumen applications. Boards can also be mechanically fastened with insulating screws and inserts or fixed with adhesive. In fact, SOPRA-ISO polyisocyanurate insulation boards are compatible with most solvents used in building adhesives.

Their many benefits make them the preferred product of builders and roofers. In addition to their constant thickness, SOPRA-ISO boards are lightweight and therefore easy to transport and handle. They are energy efficient and easy to cut to fit any space.

Shiplap Edges: An Innovation by SOPREMA

Polyisocyanurate

Major manufacturers, such as SOPREMA, offer shiplap edge boards for faster and easier installation. Essentially, these edges allow the boards to overlap and lock in place, ensuring there is no gap between them and thus minimizing the risk of air or water leaks. For installation on a 50,000 ft2 surface by a team of four installers, SOPREMA estimates a saving of 5 minutes per person per 100 ft2. The installation of shiplap boards is thus almost twice as fast as that of straight-edge boards.

Composed of a closed-cell foam core and coated with fiberglass-coated polymers, SOPRA-ISO PLUS SHIPLAP is a polyisocyanurate thermal insulating board with four shiplap edges that requires no support panel or primer when used under COLVENT BASE 830 membranes. In addition, it saves time in several ways.

An Innovative Product That Has Proven Itself

Polyisocyanurate meets the requirements of ASTM E84 and achieves very high performance in fire resistance tests. To top it off, polyisocyanurate is eco-friendly and contains no CFC or HCFC and can contribute to obtaining multiple LEED credits. It is the only foam plastic insulation approved by FM 4450 and CAN/ULC-S126 when installed directly on steel decking. Both of these tests are specifically mentioned in several building codes. SOPRA-ISO specifically meets the requirements of ASTM C1289, Type II, Class 1, Grade 2 (20 psi) or Grade 3 (25 psi) and CAN/ULC S704 Type II (20 psi) and Type III (25 psi) standards.

In summary, it is true to say that polyisocyanurate is a reliable product that has proven itself over the years. It is undoubtedly a safe bet for conventional roof insulation!
